The beauty and challenge of being an artist is that you are constantly riding up one learning curve and down another. There is always a different way, a better way, and finally a best way worth repeating, to do just about everything. With patience and practice, on a really good day, there sometimes comes those exciting moments of mastery.

Because there are so few artists in my area that are working in cast glass, this exploration of techniques, for the most part, has been a solitary one. As you can see from my Work in Progress page, the steps are many and I enjoy every one of them. Merging kiln-cast glass with Raku ceramics, and their diverse yet compatible kinetic properties, continues to redefine my latest body of work.

For me, each finished piece also includes a process that transcends my own personal agenda. I feel most successful when connected to this "kindred" world which lies just out of sight but not out of mind; the world of my artistic spirit having a body and not the other way around.

It's through this focus that pieces emerge which speak to our humanity, which prompts our hearts to smile, and also reminds us to think with more compassion. Gentle to the eyes and graceful in shape and color, I feel great joy drawing attention to harmony found in life ... imperfections and all.
